Paul Brill has kept exceptionally busy since his last recording, Harpooner, was released – composing dozens of scores for award-winning films, tv and radio series, producing and remixing other artists, and collaborating with artists as varied as U2, Dead Prez and Martha Waignwright.

Now, five years after the release of the widely acclaimed Harpooner (4-Stars, Paste Magazine), Brill returns full-time to the pop/rock sounds of his earlier work, in some ways a response to his dark, textured film work and the dense collage work of Harpooner, with a lighter and swifter touch on his upcoming recording, Breezy.  The new record was recorded live and features Brill’s 12-piece working band – whose members have performed and recorded with Radiohead, Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Bjork, Wilco, and even Frank Sinatra, and was mixed by Pat Dillett (David Byrne/Brian Eno, Mary J. Blige, Soul Coughing, Meat Puppets, Biggie Smalls).  Before the record is ready for consumption early this fall, we’re sharing the first single a little early.  “Sunny Guy” is as catchy and fun as the name suggests.  It’s meant to be heard now, while the wet kiss of summer still sits on our lips.

HBO Films - Burma Soldier

Paul recently composed a new string arrangement for an acoustic version of the classic U2 song, “Walk On,” as part of his score for the HBO film, BURMA SOLDIER.

Paul’s nomination follows his nomination last year for his score to the acclaimed film, The Trials of Darryl Hunt.

Paul Brill will be bringing a stripped down version of his band for a brief run of select performances in Southern and Northern California. Joining Paul will be Matt Ray on piano, Andy Cotton on bass, Katie Scheele on oboe and english horn, and Marc Dalio on drums.
